Lessons
I am an experienced horn player and teacher, and during my long music career I have taught many horn players of all levels, from beginner-professional. I love to teach, and I especially enjoy teaching beginners, as I can start them on the right path to easy horn playing immediately, with less to fix later. With intermediate/advanced hornists, I focus on correcting any physical issues I see, general musicianship, musicality, and helping you become your own teacher during those times in the practice room when you are unable to ask a teacher's opinion. During my lessons, expect to do some singing with your voice as you learn to play musically on the horn! With professionals, I focus on audition preparation and general musicianship.

Lesson Policies
I charge $45 per lesson for a 45 minute lesson. I expect students to attend at least 3 lessons per month between the months of September-May. If you wish to take lessons during the summer, this expectation is relaxed to allow for family vacations, etc. If you cannot make your regular lesson time, you are easily able to schedule makeup lessons throughout the month on my Calendly page. Monthly payment is due in advance for all lessons by the 1st lesson of each month for the entire month, and I email invoices before the month’s lessons begin to help everyone keep track. I accept PayPal, Zelle, cash or personal check as payment methods.
Unless cancelling due to illness, please give me 24 hours advance notice by email or phone if you must cancel your lesson. Likewise, I will do the same if I need to cancel. No credits will be given for missed lessons, but it is very easy to reschedule makeup lessons on my Calendly page.
At times I have a busy performance schedule and may need to reschedule lessons. I will try to give you notice at the beginning of the month if this happens.
Please be prepared for your lesson by having practiced daily the week before. Yes, we all have busy lives, but at the very least, I request 1/2 hour of daily practice 6 days/week. As with any pursuit, the more you practice, the better you get. Likewise, the better you get, the more fun you have and the more you will want to practice.
Supplies
I may require my regular students to purchase a few supplies within the 1st few weeks of lessons if the student doesn't already own them. These are:
-
a folding music stand
-
metronome/tuner, or suitable metronome or tuner app
-
valve oil, slide grease, and a horn cleaning snake
-
Recipe for Success, by Karen Houghton and Janet Nye. This is the preferred method book I like to use, and is available for purchase from me, or Houghton Horns directly.
